Education
  • I have a Bachelor’s Degree, majoring in Public Administration and Sociology at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. I graduated on April 19th 2013.

  • I also have ‘A’ Levels in History, Business Studies and English, 2007-2008 (Saint Andrews International High School); IGCSE - 8 (A-D) passes including English and Mathematics 2000-2006. (Saint Andrews International High School)

  • I attended my primary school in part at the Saint Andrews primary school and at the International School of South Africa (2002-2004)

Skills
  • I have exceptional organizational skills gained from my studies, volunteer work, and as an entrepreneur. Effective time management is one of these skills. I am able to work effectively either as an individual or as part of a team.

  • I have strong inter-personal skills and communication skills, a confident speaker who has the ability to present information through a variety of media in a creative, thorough and original manner.

  • Always seeking new responsibilities irrespective of reward and recognition, I am a good listener, compassionate and caring; yet very decisive and results driven.

Computer Literacy

I am proficient in the use of ICT, versatile in Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word Excel, XP and PowerPoint.

 

I also have experience of in the use of peripheral equipment such as scanners, digital cameras and video conferencing projectors and I am comfortable and savvy with social media.

International Exposure

In addition to growing up in mother land, Malawi, I lived and worked for over three years as a student in South Africa where I learnt a lot about the various and rich cultures that co-exist in the Rainbow Nation.

 

I am therefore able to relate to the sort of challenges Young people face in South Africa.

 

I have also lived and worked in Nairobi, Kenya where I was an intern at UN Habitat's Youth Unit, Urban Economy Branch, United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-HABITAT), P.O. Box 30030, Nairobi, 00100, KENYA

 

Through my roles:

  • Supporting the Youth Unit in developing an outreach and communication strategy for Habitat III youth consultations and its implementation;

  • Updating website content for youth related activities on the UN-Habitat corporate website;

  • Establishing and managing an online platform according to corporate guidelines for the Urban Youth Research Network;

  • Assisting in the promotion of the UN-HABITAT Urban Youth Fund, including answering inquiries related to the Fund, support the preparation of promotion materials, dissemination of information, updating the website, etc.;

  • Communicating with beneficiaries of the Fund;

  • Organizing and taking minutes from meetings related to the Fund; and

  • Assisting in carrying out eligibility checks on applications for the Youth Fund and quality assessments on applications for the Youth Fund.

 

I learnt a lot about how UN Habitat works and operates so much so that IF elected - with the support of your vote - I will hit the ground running.

Work Experience

2014 Dec to date: Youth Development Coordinator

I am currently working for Dedza East Trust www.dedzaeast.org where I have been tasked to:

  • Come up with sustainable and replicable environmental friendly projects for the Youth in two districts in Malawi.

  • Establish partnerships with the City of Blantyre, the Dedza District Assembly Youth offices, and NGOs active in youth development.

2014 June – Nov 2014: Intern

  • Sales: which involved makings bookings from start to finish, creating Invoices, liaising with customers.

  • Ensuring customers are taken care of and that their travel needs are met.

2012 Feb-2013 Jan

My duties were:

  • Sales, cashing up, stock taking and liaising with customers

  • Administration work, filling, book keeping and entering data into computer system

  • Personal assistant duties of keeping manager and owner informed of business activities, potential suppliers and customer queries.

  • Ensuring shop is in shape, dressing mannequins, ironing stock and confirming stock has been delivered on time and in correct quantities.

 

2010 Aug-Jan 2012 Waitressing

My duties were:

  • Setting up the restaurant at the beginning of the shift

  • Customer service, serving and hosting

  • Cashing up and ensuring working space plus restaurant is clean

I also attended a Food and Wine day seminar, where I learnt about the process of wine making, which type of foods i.e. steaks, fish chicken dishes go with which type of wine.

 

2009 Jan-Jun 2009 Teaching Assistant,

I was:

  • Working under the direction of the English teacher in the implementation of lesson plans and instructional developed by the English teacher.

  • Responsible for the implementation of lesson plans and instructions to classes of students assigned by the lead teacher.

  • Assisting in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, as directed by the Head teacher.

  • Teaching planned lessons to pupils with differing abilities.
